My San Diego Comic Con Experience Day 3

Day 3 of SDCC is the biggest day of the Con, but since I did not have a ticket for Saturday, it was my slowest day of the week.

My day started at 8am when a friend and I lined up to sign up for The Walking Dead Bbq. We were super excited for the bbq because there was another Walking Dead Bbq on Friday and the whole cast showed up. To be eligible for the bbq you needed to tweet a picture of yourself next to the Terminus sign at Comic Con and then be one of the first 200 people in line with that tweet at 9am. We got to the line in time and got your wristbands, but the event wasn’t as great as we thought it would be. (More on that later).

After getting our wristbands for the event, we began waiting in line for the Assassin’s Creed obstacle course that featured an actual 10+ foot free fall jump! However when I was in line, I found out that Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) was taking pictures at Nerd HQ so I rushed over to Petco Park and got a picture with him! (Shown at the top). He cracked a joke about me being Irish after he saw my nametag, but I was so excited that I didn’t quite hear him so I just laughed awkwardly.

After getting Sean Astin’s photo, my friend and I walked around the SDCC area and checked out all of the free events around the area. We played free Moonbeam City (a new cartoon comedy starting Rob Lowe) laser tag and did a variety of other things. When we stopped by the Simpsons area outside SDCC Matt Groening (The creator of the Simpsons) happened to be there! My friend got a picture with him, but I couldn’t get one.

After meeting Matt Groening I hung out at Nerd HQ at hopes of getting more photos or autographs with celebs. We ate lunch at Nerd HQ and did all of the free activities in Petco Park. I really badly wanted to meet Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) who was having a panel at Nerd HQ that afternoon so I hovered there for a long time to try and meet her, but I had no luck.

At 5pm The Walking Dead Bbq started and we enjoyed some free food and drinks in a Terminus themed setting. The food was good, but the event was very disappointing because the cast never came. We waited there for the entire 3 hour length of the event in hopes that they would show up, but no one ever did. O well, at least we got free food.

Saturday was a slow relaxing day, but we needed that after two intense days at the Con. It is amazing though that even on a slow day at Comic Con, I met Sean Astin and Matt Groening. However Sunday was much better than Saturday and I will recap Sunday soon!
