My San Diego Comic Con Experience Day 4

Sadly, Sunday was the last day of SDCC, but it was another wonderful day at the con. My day began at 7:30am when my friend and I lined up to possibly get standing room tickets for Stephen Amell’s Nerd HQ panel at Petco Park. We were an hour and a half early for the panel and there was no guarantee that they would sell standing room tickets, but we really wanted to see Stephen up close.

After waiting in line for an hour, Zachary Levi and Stephen Amell walked into the stadium and briefly said hello to the fans. Shortly after that, they announced that there would be 50 standing room tickets for the panel and my friend and I were the 45^th and 46^th people in line. We made it though!

The panel was great. Stephen Amell shared his favorite moments of the show so far and hinted at things to come on Arrow. At the end of the panel, Zachary announced that everyone at the panel would get to take a picture with Stephen with a $20 donation. Since my friend and I were standing in the back of the room, we got to leave first and got to be some of the first people to get a picture with him! (Picture at the top) I got Stephen to point to the Green Arrow on my shirt and too put on his signature brooding scowl for the picture too! Meeting Stephen Amell was definitely one of my top 5 moments of the whole con!

After the Stephen Amell meet and greet I went back to the convention center to see a Skybound Comics panel featuring Robert Kirkman (Creator of The Walking Dead). The panel was my first actual comic panel of the week and it was awesome. It was really interesting to hear Kirkman and fellow comic creators Josh Williamson (Ghosted), Khary Randolph (Tech Jacket), and Matt Roberts and Chris Dingess (Manifest Destiny) talk about their projects.

The panel made me want to read all of their comics really badly and I have since bought some copies of Ghosted and Manifest Destiny. I suggest that everyone who goes to Comic Con goes to at least one comic panel because they are great. Also after the panel was over I was able to get Robert Kirkman to sign my comic and I got a picture with him!

After the Skybound Comics panel, I saw a panel about the history of Batman on television throughout the years. The panel was attended by many of those important figures in Batman history including the creators of Batman the Brave and the Bold and Young Justice. Michael Uslan, the man that brought Batman to movie screens for the first time with Tim Burton’s Batman was also in attendance. All of these men were extremely passionate about Batman and it was interesting to hear their different takes on the character.

This panel also had the most intense fans of any panel I had seen at the Con so far. Everyone in the panel were extreme Batman fans, sometimes to a bit of a scary extent. The guy next to me the panel was wearing Batman attire from head to toe including fake nails and shoes. He was nearly twitching the whole time with excitement. It was cool to see such big fans. 

My next panel I attended was the Lego Batman 3 panel. I was only attending the panel so that I could get a good seat to the Quentin Tarantino panel that came next in the same room, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Lego Batman panel. Halfway through the panel Adam West showed up and the crowd went wild. The rest of the panel was hysterical as Adam West cracked jokes with the rest of the voice actors from the game.

My final panel of SDCC was a ten year anniversary for Dynamite Comics with Dynamite founder Quentin Tarantino. In the panel Tarantino talked about his upcoming panel that has Django from Django Unchained team up with Zorro. The book sounded amazing and the panel was also great. This comic will be Tarantino’s first comic ever so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

After the Dynamite panel I was finally able to hit up the convention floor for the first time and pick up some swag! I bought a couple great posters, a couple shirts, and some books by up and coming comic creators. There were some major sales that day because none of the vendors wanted to bring their merchandise back with them.

At 5pm SDCC sadly came to an end. My friend and I settled in to a well deserved dinner and discussed all the highs and lows of the week. San Diego Comic Con was an absolutely amazing experience for me and I really hope that I can come back again next year. Before I left for Comic Con, my goal was to try and meet Kaya Scodelario, Stephen Amell, and Robert Kirkman and I met all of them! I thought they would be the most attainable celebrities to meet while still being an amazing thrill.

The only thing that sadden me about Comic Con was that I never got to see anything Orphan Black related all week. Hopefully the cast comes back next year! If you have never been to SDCC before, it really is impossible to describe accurately. If you ever have the chance to go I suggest you take that opportunity because it is an experience you will never forget!
